SEO & AEO Case Study

Improving Search Performance for Local Service Businesses

As a freelance writer and SEO/AEO strategist for Ignite Local, I rewrote and optimized websites for service businesses across the United States. I handled keyword research, competitor research, search-intent analysis, analytics review, content strategy, copywriting, editing, metadata, internal linking, and FAQ development.

Assignments began with an established website that needed stronger search alignment and clearer customer-focused copy. I reviewed the existing pages and available performance data, researched the local market, and developed the keyword strategy for each business. I then rewrote the content around the services, customer motivations, and questions most relevant to prospective buyers.

Ignite Local’s account managers gathered information from each client and coordinated communication. The agency’s web team handled visual design, development, publishing, and technical SEO. After launch, I reviewed Google Analytics and Ahrefs data and compiled the performance summary used in this case study.

Establishing Local Authority for a Chimney and Masonry Contractor

The contractor had years of experience and strong craftsmanship, but the homepage opened with the company name and gave prospective customers little reason to view the business as a leading local choice.

I replaced the generic opening with a location-specific value proposition:

Seattle’s Trusted Chimney and Masonry Experts Since 2010

The new hero identifies the company’s specialty and market immediately. The longevity statement adds a meaningful trust signal for homeowners comparing local contractors.

I strengthened the supporting copy around the services customers needed, the standards they expected, and the reasons they could feel confident contacting the company.

Results

The revised messaging gave search engines and AI tools clearer information about the business while helping visitors understand its value more quickly.

After the SEO refresh, total website users doubled, and organic traffic increased by approximately 25%. The site also received four referrals from ChatGPT during the latest reporting month.

Capturing High-Intent Searches for a Plumbing Company

Copy for service businesses

The plumbing company served several North Texas communities and had more than 15 years of experience. Its website copy used broad service language that did not consistently match the way local customers searched or the urgency behind many plumbing calls.

I revised the homepage headline from the generic:

Professional Plumbing Services

to a more specific value proposition:

McKinney Plumber With Fast Response, Quality Results, Fair Pricing

The revised version gives local visitors immediate confirmation that the company serves their area. It also communicates the qualities homeowners commonly weigh when deciding which plumber to call.

I applied the same strategy to the company’s drain-cleaning page. The original title described the service without identifying the location or reflecting urgent customer needs. The revised headline targets the local service query directly:

McKinney Drain Cleaning and Repair — 24/7 Emergency Service

The opening copy now addresses what a customer wants during a drain or sewer problem: a quick response, reliable repair, and a team with relevant local experience. The supporting content includes the company’s service area, longevity, equipment, and repair capabilities.

Results

Visitors spent substantially more time with the updated content. Time on page more than tripled after the homepage and service pages were optimized. Organic search also represented a slightly larger share of total traffic after the updates.

Building a Distinct Value Proposition for a Regional Painting Contractor

The painting contractor’s existing website did not clearly connect each service with the search language and priorities of prospective customers. The pages needed a more deliberate keyword strategy and sharper value propositions.

I reviewed the homepage and three service pages, then developed a revised keyword approach for each page. I aligned the copy with the intent behind the relevant searches and gave each service a distinct value proposition.

The rewrite helped prospective customers understand the scope and relevance of each service before contacting the company. It also gave search engines clearer signals about the pages’ subjects and geographic relevance.

Within two months, organic traffic doubled. The website’s engagement rate also increased by 30%.

I reviewed performance through Google Analytics and Ahrefs and compiled the results after the website updates. The figures reflect changes recorded after the work was published. Ignite Local’s broader marketing, technical, and client activities may also have contributed to performance.

The Business Challenge

Many local service businesses build their websites early and update them gradually as the company grows. Over time, the content can lose alignment with the services customers search for and the reasons they choose one provider over another.

The businesses in these projects already had genuine expertise. Their websites needed to communicate that expertise more clearly.

Several pages relied on broad industry language. Others gave limited attention to local search intent, customer concerns, or the questions that support AI-generated answers. Important services sometimes lacked enough context for search engines to understand their relevance. Prospective customers also had to work too hard to identify the company’s strengths.

My role was to connect each company’s real-world value with the language its customers used while searching.

What This Work Demonstrates

These projects show how I approach SEO and AEO as part of a complete communication strategy. I use search data to understand demand, then connect that demand with the company’s actual expertise and the customer’s decision process.

The resulting pages give people clearer reasons to trust the business and take the next step. They also help search engines and AI platforms understand when the company offers a relevant answer.
